Alexis Widamen, B.S.

Intern in Counseling

You have taken the first step in the counseling process by acknowledging that something in your life is not the way you want it to be, and you are seeking support and willing to engage in self-exploration and change. It is important to find a counselor who will support you on your journey.

I am passionate about providing a holistic and individualized approach to mental health. My goal is to provide a warm, safe, and supportive space where you feel comfortable being fully and authentically yourself without fear of judgment. I believe therapy works best when you feel seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are, so I strive to create an environment where you can process emotions, explore challenges, and gain deeper self-understanding at your own pace. My hope is that clients leave sessions feeling empowered to face their challenges.

Who I Help

I work with individuals of all ages in person and online who are seeking to explore, tackle, and overcome:

  • Life transitions
  • Emotional regulation
  • Trauma and grief
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Self-esteem struggles

Background

I am an counseling student, pursuing my M.A. in clinical mental health counseling at Regent University. I earned a B.S. in Biochemistry and Nutrition with minors in French and Psychology from the University of Miami. With this degree, I learned about epigenetics, which is the effect of the environment on the physical and mental health of an individual.

My personal experience with chronic illness, as well as a life-changing concussion in 2015, have grown my interest in working with those who have had their own life-changing diagnoses and injuries. I am dedicated to being an advocate for those with chronic illnesses and disabilities.

I also have 8 years of experience with the intellectual and developmental disability community. I am currently a Direct Support Professional with many certifications, including CPR/First Aid and Therapeutic Options of Virginia. This background informs my ability to conduct a person-centered and compassionate approach.

Christian counseling is available upon request.
