Clinical Focus Areas and Counseling Approach
Alyssa provides in-person and online counseling at Free Spirit for individuals (aged 18 and up) and couples. She works with clients seeking support for life transitions, military life, healthy relationship building, self-esteem, and women’s issues, as well as depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, and PTSD recovery. Alyssa’s approach to counseling is eclectic, drawing primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while also incorporating elements of person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness and a strengths-based focus.
Professional Philosophy
According to Alyssa: “I am dedicated to creating an empathetic, non-judgmental space for clients, where you can feel safe and supported to explore your thoughts, emotions, and vulnerabilities. I believe therapy is a journey of exploration, with you at the helm and the counselor at your side, supporting you through each twist and turn. Along the way, you can discover new levels of self-awareness, inner strength, and understanding. I am passionate about helping you develop new resilience and confidence to take action and make meaningful change that creates your highest quality life.
Educational Background
Alyssa received her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wake Forest University, where she was inducted into Chi Sigma Iota, the national counseling honor society. She also earned her B.S. in Environmental Resource Management from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!).
