Karli Minnick, M.A.

Karli is a Licensed Resident in Counseling in Virginia. Her passion is helping people who feel unheard, unseen, or left behind discover their voice, worth, and strengths, empowering them to continue forward in their own unique ways.

Clinical Focus Areas and Counseling Approaches

Karli exclusively provides online counseling at Free Spirit and works with individuals age 6 and up and couples. She works with clients seeking support with issues including, but not limited to, trauma, chronic illness, disabilities, grief/loss, assertiveness/boundaries, self-esteem, anger, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, communication, relationship issues, and ADD/ADHD.  She tailors her counseling approach from a base of person-centered therapy, combined with elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a strengths-based focus.

From Karli’s point of view, “Creating a therapeutic relationship that is safe, trustworthy, respectful, and collaborative is of the utmost importance.  I believe counseling is empowering and even life changing when someone finds the right fit with their therapist.  I’m passionate about helping each client channel their inner strengths and find resources so they can develop tools to work through whatever may be preventing them from living their life to the fullest.”

Educational Background

Karli received her M.A. in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. She also received her B.S. in Crisis Counseling from Liberty University and her A.A.S. in Human Services from Wytheville Community College.

Professional Experience

Karli has worked in several private practices counseling adults of all ages with a variety of issues, as well as conducting play therapy with children and youth. She served with the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Services disaster response, providing support to those experiencing trauma and loss. She has worked in community food pantries and other community outreach areas, giving her insight into the importance of accessing local resources to promote well-being.

  • Karli grew up on a farm, loves cows and cats, and adores being outdoors, especially with family and friends.
  • She also loves reading, baking, swimming, tennis, playing board games, biking, and clogging.
  • Her favorite colors are coral and olive green.

As a Licensed Resident in Counseling, Karli is in-network with Cigna/Evernorth commercial insurance and the following Medicaid Plans: Aetna Better Health, Anthem Healthkeepers+, Sentara Health Family and Community Plans (formerly Optima/VA Premier), and United Healthcare Community Plan; processing for Molina. She is also able to see other non-Medicaid clients for a sliding scale, negotiable fee.
